How to Pray for Your Husband: 5 Prayers You Can Use Right Now
You love your husband deeply and want God to work in his life. You know the importance of praying for him. But you feel like a deer in the headlights: you don’t know how to pray for your husband. You don’t know the right words to say. You’re afraid your prayers won’t be “good enough.”
Does that sound familiar? Are those the thoughts in the back of your mind? We’ve heard countless people say those same things. But don’t believe that every thought in your mind is from God. Those thoughts that discourage you from praying are lies straight from the enemy.
The enemy knows that God answers prayer. He knows that praying for your husband draws you closer to God and enriches your marriage. The enemy wants to keep your husband (and you!) from experiencing the abundant life Jesus promised (John 10:10), so he will tell you lies, throw up roadblocks, and do whatever he can to distract you from hitting your knees.
If you don’t know what to pray for your husband, ask God. He knows your husband’s needs–even more than you do. If you sit quietly and listen to God’s voice inside, He will lead you in what to pray. If you sit quietly and listen to God’s voice inside, He will lead you in what to say.

5 Prayers for Your Husband
Prayer for my husband’s career. Based on Psalm 90:17 and Colossians 3:23.
God, let your favor be upon my husband today. Thank you for providing him with a job. I ask that You would establish the work of his hands and his career as he seeks to provide for our blended family. Whatever my husband does in his work and in interactions with colleagues, may he let Your light shine and draw people to You. Amen.
Prayer for my husband’s parenting. Based on Ephesians 6:4 and Psalm 103:13.
Heavenly Father, thank you for my husband’s relationship with our children (and/or step children). Thank You for choosing him as their father. Give him wisdom as he seeks to develop bonds with our children, and open our kids’ hearts to be receptive to him. Show him what each child needs from him as a father so he can meet those needs. May he not provoke or aggravate them, but rather bring them up to love You and love others. Amen.
Prayer for my husband’s spiritual growth. Based on Colossians 2:6-7 and James 1:5.
Lord, thank You for pursuing my husband with Your great love and grace. I pray that he will be able to see himself as Your beloved. Let him be deeply rooted in You and strengthened by You so that his faith is firm and unwavering. Deepen his passion for You. May he love You with all of his heart and with all of his soul and with all of his mind. Allow his relationship with You to spill out into our blended family. Amen.
Prayer for my husband’s spiritual protection. Based on Ephesians 6:11 and 1 Corinthians 10:13
God Almighty, I thank You for being a Mighty fortress. Thank You for being the Victor of sin and death. I pray for Your protection over my husband. I pray that he would be fully clothed in the armor of God, fitted with every piece covering him. Let him embrace the authority you give him over the enemy. Bind the enemy from my husband, and break any strongholds the enemy uses to ensnare him. Help him withstand temptation, standing firm in You. Empower him to live as the husband and father (and/or stepfather) that You created him to be. Amen.
Prayer for my husband’s healing. Based on Psalm 147:3 and Isaiah 61:1
Lord, thank You for being Jehovah Rapha, the God who heals. I pray for the emotional wounds my husband carries. Bring wholeness to childhood trauma, and allow him to parent his children (and/or stepchildren) from a place of wholeness. Where there is hurt from a previous marriage or relationship, give him the willingness to forgive and to let go of bitterness. Allow him to forgive himself for the mistakes and hurtful actions in his past. Reveal to him any triggers affecting our marriage, and give us patience and trust to work through them. Amen.
Remember, Hebrews 7:25 says that Jesus intercedes (prays) on your behalf. Scripture also says that when your emotions well up and you can’t find the words to pray for your husband, the Holy Spirit offers up petitions that express the deepest longings of your heart (Romans 8:34). Trust that God will not only answer your prayers, but He will also lead you in how to pray for your husband!
